What Is the Rarest Face Shape?

The diamond face shape is usually described as the rarest, because it needs a narrow forehead and a narrow jaw with wide cheekbones. Triangle and pear faces (wider at the jaw than the forehead) are also uncommon.

Why diamond is rare

A diamond face needs three things at once: cheekbones much wider than the forehead, cheekbones much wider than the jaw, and a narrow chin. Most faces have a forehead that's close to the cheekbone width, which rules out diamond.

Is there real data?

Not much. Face shape frequency isn't tracked in large scientific studies, and categories are subjective. In our own calibration set, measured with the same landmark model our detector uses, diamond, pear and inverted triangle were the least common results, and oval, heart and square the most common.

The most common face shapes

Oval is usually named the most common, followed by round, square and heart.
