How foundation shade codes work
Most brands label shades with a number for depth and a letter for undertone:
- W / Y / G = warm (yellow or golden)
- C / P / R = cool (pink or red)
- N = neutral
- O = olive
Lower numbers are usually lighter. A "120 N" is a light neutral; a "450 W" is a deep warm.
How to test a match
Swatch two or three shades on your jawline, not your hand, and check them in daylight. The right shade disappears into your skin and matches your neck.
